In Memoriam: Will Mitchell
We at SMS are very sad to share with you that our colleague and friend Will Mitchell passed away unexpectedly on December 6, 2021. Will was a prominent leader and active advocate for the field of strategic management. He is survived by his partner Dilys Bowman and three grown children Mairi, Tamzin and Luc. At SMS, he served most recently as one of the SMS 41st Annual Conference Program Chairs, co-created the Strategy Imagination Forums, is an SMS Fellow, served on the Board of Directors from 2018-2020 and 2004-2008, has been a Co-Editor of the Strategic Management Journal and a Competitive Strategy Interest Group leader, and was a former Co-Editor within Media Innovations. The SMS Board of Directors, Office, and Community share our deepest condolences with Will’s family and friends. He will be sorely missed.
We are excited to share the results from this year's elections for SMS Leadership!

In January, we will welcome Rodolphe Durand and Constance Helfat as Directors-at-Large for three-year terms. Additionally, George Stalk will return to the Board as an appointed Director-at-Large for another three-year term to continue to strengthen SMS’s connection across the academic, business, and consultant communities.
We also look forward to welcoming the newly elected Associate Program Chairs and Representatives-at-Large from our Interest Groups and Communities. Click below to view these results!
Additionally, we are happy to announce that the SMS Board of Directors has appointed Craig Crossland as the next Treasurer for SMS!
The Board Treasurer is an executive and voting member of the SMS Board of Directors and is appointed in a manner consistent with the bylaws. Craig has been appointed for a three-year term, from July 1st, 2022 to June 30th, 2025. Craig will be responsible for offering guidance to the SMS Executive Office to ensure good fiscal planning, decision-making, and oversight at a governance level.
We appreciate the dedication that Tomi Laamanen, the current SMS Board Treasurer, has brought to the role for the past five years. His commitment to SMS has helped us to maintain a strong financial position for the Society.
